Nature and fried pickles
This week at "Beetles and Bees", we have been busy with the wonderful outdoors. The temperture as dropped and we are loving the low humidity. We spent Monday using a new curriculum I discovered online. It was developed by "Shining Dawn Books" and they have many nature studies to choose. I bought "Peaceful Ponds" and We love it.
We also studied our local Pine trees and the children were surprised to find our local lake to be drained about 5 feet so they went exploring in the mud and they saw a lot of wildlife footprints . We are using Anna Comstock's "Nature Study" for the tree study.
Have any of you ever eaten fried pickles? While I am typing I am eating some for the first time and they are great. [Us southerners love to fry food] Unhealthly yes but I did not buy them someone asked me to taste.

This week has been so much of extra curricular work we haven't done much {paperWork}.
We did an awesome nature study at a local lake and the children ended up getting muddy and saw all kinds of wildlife footprints. I'll post the photos when I get a chance. Our goldie Dallie came with us and LOVED the water and the mud. She tried to go after the sticks but they kept sinking. We studied our local Pine trees and our next visit we will study Ponds with a really cool new curriculum.

IT WORKED!
This blogging is so satisfying and fulfilling. I am able to put my thoughts and our homeschool experiences in writing. I love it.
David is almost done with the stripping of the second canoe and it is flatter on the bottom for a more stable trip on a lake instead of on a river.
He will also be building window-boxes for the front of our newly designed front yard. It has been a long haul (9 years) but we are making gardening easier.I am so excited about the window boxes and the picket fence. I will have lots of pictures to share.Hopefully I will then now how to write caption with everyone then.ha ha

I'm Back
Friends ,
It has been awhile but I am back and learning new things about blogging. We have had an exciting couple of weeks. My Aunt Jackie has moved down from Memphis and it has been difficult for her. My dear friend Pam had her baby, 6 weeks early!!!!! Talk about nervous. I got to hold the baby on Sunday. He is in ICU for premies at a great hospital and he is growing everyday. Pam is healing nicely and she looks great.
On the home front, David and Josh are building another canoe, it will have a flatter bottom for more stability. David went up to Ct to visit his mom and family and arrived safely back home. We have been busy with school and life. Some of flowers are enjoying the lack of cold weather and are still blooming and looking great. I have been reading alot lately, (probably why I not blogging so much). I have read a lot of Newbery Medal Winners and Nature Study Books. " A Gathering of Days" ," My Side of the Mountain" , "The Witch of Blackbird Pond", "Dipper of Copper Creek", " Handbook of Nature Study"
The great out of doors is changing to the fall and it is gorgeous.
Have agreat day.

nature studies at the Lassy home
School started great today. We ended with nature studies and the "The Outdoor Hour" lessons on nature study. Hopefully, I can the pics on my blog.
Nature Study
Yea, this week started off great! We did our lessons and then did our "Nature Study Close to Home" ,"The Outdoor Hour". We did lessons 1 - 3 and it went great, we came inside and drew in our nature notebook. Hopefully< I can get the photos on the computer.
We saw some really interesting creatures spiders, catepillars, flowers, Fire Ants (ugh), hornets nest, moths and our pets cats, dog & chickens.
This time of year in southern Alabama it is not so hot and we can spend more time outside without getting so hot and sweaty as long as we do nature studies in the morning or late evening.
All of us love being outsdie gardening, walking, playing and just enjoying the sights and sounds of God's greats gifts.

School at the Lassy's has started and it is going well. We are using the "My Father's World" for the majority but we throw in some lapbooks and nature studies. Math U See is a great program for math and we love it.

It is with a sad heart that I have to tell my friends and family that we lost a relative yesterday. A very dear cousin lost her husband to suicide leaving 2 boys for her to raise alone. They live in Canada and we are speachless. Please pray our family as we deal with this loss especially Jennifer, Alex and Jeremy.

Red head Ramblings
Hello Friends, it has been a great week and it is only Wednesday. Josh is adjusting to his cast and still all boy. Liz has been busy sewing some sleep pants and shorts for herself. She has also been writing to her penpals. David is still working on the canoe and has removed the staples and is getting ready to sand for the last time before he starts the sealing process.I hope to have my friend show me how to put a slidshow of the build.

Hair cut
Howdy folks, I was daring and my 10 year old daughter and I gave myself a big haircut. I had been growing out long but I looked old and worn out so now it is short and I LOVE it. I'm always outside and I am no longer so hot in the South AL heat.
